Environmental management statement
What is this Statement for? Who is it for?
This is a short statement setting out dxw’s stance on the topic of the environment. It is for anyone to read giving a brief overview of how dxw manages how it affects the environment.
This is about how dxw manages its present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs.
Environmental statement
dxw exists to improve people’s lives by designing, building, running, and improving digital public services.
Our reputation is built on our ability to consistently deliver work of excellent quality that exceeds our clients’ expectations, including the expectation that we will protect our clients’ information as well as our own. We extend this to the protection of the environment where we can too.
dxw is a remote first service based organisation. As such our primary environmental impact revolves around our carbon emissions, and how our staff work at home. We also recognise the environmental impact of digital products and work, including energy use, the environmental cost of digital devices and impact of efficiency of digital systems.
As dxw we commit ourselves to protect our environment and to prevent pollution that could result from our business activities.
Our environmental management system
The goal
We implement an environmental management system (EMS) to allow dxw to understand, measure and reduce any negative impact on our environment. We do this by:
- understanding our impact on the environment
- conducting regular carbon emission calculations
- monitoring the impact our suppliers cause
- adopting a net zero approach to carbon emissions
- adopting a policy of reducing the per employee carbon emissions year on year
- upholding and enacting our Social Values.
Our objectives can be found in our environmental management manual. It will make available suitable resources to achieve these goals, and will monitor and report on their progress, in our quarterly management meetings.
Work covered by the EMS
The EMS and the policies and procedures within it apply to all of dxw as defined in the scope of our ISO14001 certification.
Who does this work?
The EMS is managed by the Earth team who are responsible for maintaining it to a level where it accomplishes the goals of dxw and meets or exceeds the requirements of ISO14001. All staff and contractors will implement the EMS where appropriate.
What is the EMS?
The EMS is a collection of definitions, policy, process, review and learning that is applied to activities within the defined scope. The Earth team is responsible for ensuring that the management system is operated successfully, correctly communicated and continuously improved. As part of this process the Earth team will have regular formal meetings with dxw management, to ensure strategic goals and resourcing are correctly provided so that the EMS remains relevant and effective.
Other management systems
dxw operates other management systems, and has these accredited to various ISO standards. The EMS is designed to work alongside and support these, just as they are designed to help support this management system. At this time these are:
- Information security management system (ISMS, ISO27001)
- IT Service management system (SMS, ISO20000-1)
- Quality management system (QMS, ISO9001)
