Permission to work in different ways
There’s no “standard” way to work at dxw. We support a variety of formal flexible working patterns (such as part-time or compressed hours) and within those you have the freedom to make your working day work for you. This works as long as you’re meeting your contracted hours and recording your time accurately, allowing us to plan our work and bill our clients fairly.
This may include:
- Starting and finishing earlier or later. Maybe you’re up and working by 7am, or you do your best thinking later in the evening. You’re at your best at different times of day, so structure your day to reflect that.
- Splitting your working day. Yoga classes, school plays, dog groomers, driving lessons… Life is busy, and that’s ok. You can break up your working day in a way that incorporates your other commitments.
- Taking regular breaks. Go for a walk, step away from the screen, take a proper lunch, whatever helps you maintain a balance that feels right for you.
All of this is ok, without needing to ask for permission, as long as your team and clients can still rely on you. You should plan around the things that need you, keep the commitments you’ve made and tell people early if you can’t make something.
We also recognise that “work” can take on many different forms. Often our work involves thinking creatively and working through complex problems. For many of us this is easier when away from our desks or computer screens. We trust you to make the right decisions and don’t expect people to spend their whole working day at their desk.
When you’re stepping away from your desk for a while, let your team know, either by dropping them a Slack message or by updating your calendar or Slack status.
